The following is an update to the Alert released May 21st 2019.
The substance in the May 21st alert was seized by Ontario Provincial Police in Tecumseh. Please note this is not cannabis laced with an opioid. It is carfentanil that has been disguised to resemble cannabis. For information regarding the seizure, please contact Ontario Provincial Police.

A product was seized in Ontario that has the appearance of cannabis. After being tested, this product was found to contain carfentanil. There is no cannabis in this product. A similar product was also seized in Ohio (containing heroin and fentanyl). This product has not been found in Waterloo Region. See attached alert for more information.

On November 1st 2018, Waterloo Regional Police attended a suspected non-fatal overdose call in which it was suspected that counterfeit xanax was consumed.

On March 22nd Waterloo Regional Police seized a purple substance with a consistency like ‘play dough’. Health Canada has since confirmed this is carfentanil.

Health Canada has just notified the Waterloo Regional Police Service that a sample tested from Waterloo Region is Cyclopropyl Fentanyl. Cyclopropyl Fentanyl is a type of fentanyl, however its effects in people are unknown.
