Community Drug Alert Extension - Four suspected drug-related deaths since May 28
The Overdose Monitoring Alert and Response System (OMARS) is issuing an extension of the May 28th Community Drug Alert for Waterloo Region.
This alert is an extension of the Community Drug Alert released on May 28th, 2024. The initial alert included 35 reported overdoses/drug poisonings, and 2 suspected drug-related deaths between May 23rd and May 26th, 2024. Since the initial alert, there was an additional 50 reported overdoses/drug poisonings, and 4 suspected drug-related death.
The unregulated drug supply is unpredictable and unexpected reactions may occur, including a current trend of heavy sedation. Drug overdoses/ poisonings may require multiple doses of naloxone.
The Kitchener CTS Drug Checking Program has detected samples of Fentanyl, combined with various Fentanyl analogues, Benzodiazepines (including Bromazolam and Xanax), and Xylazine. Colours of concern were red, reddish orange, reddish pink, green, and grey. While a connection between the substances identified and the reported drug overdoses/poisonings is not known, details on these substances are included for your information.
