From March 28th – April 5th, there were five suspected drug overdose/poisoning related deaths.
This alert is an extension of the Community Drug Alert released on March 27, 2024 that included three suspected drug overdose/poisoning related deaths between March 19th – 26th.
The unregulated drug supply is unpredictable, drug overdoses/poisonings may require more naloxone and unexpected reactions may occur.

From March 19 - 26 there have been three suspected overdose/drug poisoning related deaths in Waterloo Region.
The Kitchener CTS Drug Checking Program has recently detected samples of Fentanyl combined with various new Fentanyl analogues, Bromazolam, Xylazine, and Medetomidine/Dexmedetomidine. While a connection between the substances identified and the suspected drug overdose/poisoning related deaths is not known, the details on these substances are included for your information.

From January 10th to 22nd, there have been six suspected drug overdose/poisoning-related deaths in Waterloo Region. Four deaths occurred in the last week.
Over the past month, the Drug Checking Program at the Kitchener CTS detected samples of fentanyl combined with other substances, including Para-fluorofentanyl, Bromazolam, and Xylazine. Details about these substances are included in the PDF drug alert.

The Overdose Monitoring Alert and Response System (OMARS) is issuing an Overdose Alert for Waterloo Region.
There has been an increased number of overdoses/drug poisonings (44 reported cases) from November 7th to November 14th, along with 2 suspected deaths.
The Drug Checking Program at the Kitchener CTS recently detected 2 fentanyl samples containing ketamine.
